7:45pm-10pm Core Skills and Basic Moves for crowded milongas (break 8:45-9pm)
10pm-11pm Practica ...we may bring it forward to tomorrow, 24th Feb. if the demand is there.
Please drop me a line if you'd like to come tomorrow night. Decision will be
made in the afternoon, people will be emailed directly and a note will be posted
on the website (not here). How do you get on with dancing shoulder-to-shoulder? Here's a chance to learn
how to really enjoy dancing in *packed* milongas (e.g. Niche and most venues in
Buenos Aires). We'll be focusing on skills like: being grounded; shrinking those
big moves without feeling short-changed; accessing the variety that's in the
music; connecting with your fellow dancers in the ronda; getting beyond set
steps so you can go anywhere at short notice. Not just a lesson in floorcraft
for guys: useful instruction for both men and women. |

20:00-22:30 | La Falena Milonga
|
At La Falena you will find a wonderful dance floor and a
friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Musically it will share the spirit of Mano a
Mano; traditional Tango music shot through with the odd spark of something
modern, all chosen with love, dedication and great care. John Connatty and I dj on alternate Thursdays, which promises to bring you some variety, since although we have similar tastes in music we each have our own distinctive DJ style. Come and enjoy the first evening of La Falena this Thursday. You are guaranteed a warm welcome from John and me. Entrance £4/£3 concessions Full bar

| Most Fridays 30 Jul 2010 |
28/07/10 | Niche Late Lounge Regent Street Cambridge CB2 1DP |
20:30-23:00 | Friday Milonga | From 8 to 11pm we'll have traditional tango/vals criollo/milonga
(in tandas with cortinas) in the main room; up-beat electrotango and non-tango
in the front bar. After 11pm we will generally be able to run on (potentially
until 4am) at Niche's discretion – most likely playing a high energy mixture of
tango and non-tango music. Great atmosphere, excellent sound system, wooden floor, Arg. codigos. And Niche has a useful 2-for-1 cocktail deal 8-11pm, with impressive alcohol-free options for those who don't drink and dance. It's a small dance floor, but we can comfortably have 12 couples on it if we dance Buenos Aires-style… [See below.] Cost £3(£2), free to non-dancers. Special deal for dancers arriving after 10pm: pay what you want, on exit, depending on how much dancing time you've had. Keep an eye on the website: Niche's owner (same guy as at Hidden Rooms) is very enthusiastic but things can crop up at short notice... Niche is on Regent Street, Cambridge (opposite the Prince Regent pub). Unrestricted car parking after 7pm in Regent Street (full by 8pm) and Hills Road. Plus double-yellows on Regent Street if you choose somewhere non-obstructing and the parking wardens have knocked off (8pm? 9pm?), or Queen Anne car park by the swimming pool. More advice about getting there and parking on the Tango Serendipity website. |

| Fridays | Ross Street Community Centre CB1 3UZ |
20:00-22:00 | Tango Course | Stephanie and I are offering a new tango course, this year
called "Milonga, Milonga Traspie and Nutty Fun Stuff" on Fridays. Milonga is the "fast" music that followers tend to like and leaders dread as there is not enough time to think! It can all be OK and we'll work on finding pauses and time in milonga. Then we will do some milonga traspie which is really fast steps, except when done well your whole body moves more slowly. Do you want to dance milonga for 2 hours? Nope, probably not so we are going to break the milonga up with "nutty fun stuff". So, what is this "nutty fun stuff", then? Silly sacadas, bonkers barridas,
gauche ganchos, exciting embrace changes, magnificent music, brilliant boleos
and crazy colgadas. many thanks, |

The course is also focused on very important principles in tango: leading and following, embrace and posture. No need to bring a partner. After the Basic Course, you will have sufficient skills to explore more tango, on our drop-in classes. Time: 7:00 - 8:00pm Price: £5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Drop-in classes for "improvers" The drop-in classes are for dancers who feel like learning more tango on a bit higher level. What is Tango?
TANGO is a dance conversation between two people. You and a dance partner can express musical moods through improvised movements. You can dance simple tango after one lesson, but spend a lifetime developing your own dancing.
Tango originated in the “Rio de la Plata” at the turn of the last century. Tango was born within the immigrant and lower class communities in this area. During the next few decades tango spread throughout South American society and then throughout the world. Tango communities exist in most countries of the world, and more are being born all the time.
